Coming of Age Ministries
The Mission:
To help the maturing young people of our church feel seen, celebrated and connected within our church community. We want to support them as they continue growing into the young women and men that God designed them to be.
The Motivation:
It’s been proven that as young people feel valued, integrated & connected in cross-generational relationships, they are much more likely to remain within their faith communities. These supportive relationships can also nurture their spiritual growth and provide a stabilizing foundation to their development and success in many areas of life.
The Method:
This ministry has two primary components:
1. Ceremony of Initiation (for young people 13+ yrs.) The initiate selects 3-5 mentors (same gender, caring older friends that they look up to spiritually) to join this time of individualized prayer, blessing, fun and initiation into the applicable Coming of Age community. Previously initiated members are also welcome to attend with invitation.
2. Cross-generational Fellowship in Community All initiates are invited to attend the 1-2 annually planned activities/events along with their greater Coming of Age Community (Examples include hikes, camping trips, bonfires, spa socials…) Having fun together helps nurture a sense of belonging and connection within the larger community.
